Agag was the king of the Amalekites during the reign of Saul. God commanded Saul, through the prophet Samuel, to completely destroy the Amalekites as judgment for their opposition to Israel during the Exodus. Saul defeated the Amalekites but spared Agag and kept the best of the livestock, disobeying God's command. As a result, Samuel rebuked Saul and declared that his kingdom would be taken from him. Samuel later executed Agag, fulfilling the judgment against Amalek.
