Governor of Beyond the River (Persian Official) • Post-Exilic Period
Tattenai was a Persian governor of the region 'Beyond the River' during the reign of Darius I. He investigated the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem and questioned the authority of Zerubbabel and the Jewish leaders. After reporting to King Darius, he allowed the work to continue once it was confirmed by royal decree.
