Abdon, the son of Hillel, was a judge of Israel from Pirathon in the hill country of Ephraim. He judged Israel for eight years. Abdon is noted for his large and prosperous family, having forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys, a sign of wealth and status. After his period of leadership, he was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim.
