Governor under Babylon • After the Fall of Jerusalem
Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, was appointed governor of Judah by Nebuchadnezzar after the fall of Jerusalem. He ruled from Mizpah and encouraged the remaining people to live peacefully under Babylonian authority, but he was later assassinated by Ishmael son of Nethaniah.
