Husband of Mary and Legal Father of Jesus • Life of Jesus
Joseph was the husband of Mary and the legal father of Jesus. A descendant of David, he obeyed divine instructions concerning Mary's miraculous pregnancy, named the child Jesus, protected Him during Herod's persecution, and raised Him in Nazareth. Luke also presents Joseph with Mary during Jesus' childhood, including the journey to Jerusalem when Jesus was twelve.
