Nehemiah was a Jewish official serving as cupbearer to King Artaxerxes I of Persia. After hearing of Jerusalem's broken walls, he received permission to return and rebuild the city's defenses. Through leadership, prayer, and perseverance despite opposition, Nehemiah led the rebuilding of Jerusalem's walls and helped restore the spiritual and civic life of the returned community.
