Apostle of Jesus • Life of Jesus
John was the son of Zebedee, brother of James, and one of Jesus' twelve apostles. He belonged with Peter and James to the close group that witnessed the raising of Jairus's daughter, the Transfiguration, and Gethsemane. He is traditionally identified with the beloved disciple prominent in John's Gospel, though the Gospel itself does not explicitly name the beloved disciple as John.
