Brother of Jesus and Leader of the Jerusalem Church • Early Church
James, the brother of Jesus, became a prominent leader of the church in Jerusalem. Paul met with him during an early visit to Jerusalem. At the Jerusalem Council, James gave the concluding judgment that Gentile believers should not be required to become Jews but should observe several necessary restrictions. Years later Paul met with James and the Jerusalem elders after returning from his missionary travels.
